What is Cyber Essential Plus?

Cyber Essential Plus is a government-backed scheme certification, a scheme against cyber-attacks. This includes a Cyber Essentials questionnaire and also involves an independent technical audit (an external scan) of the systems to verify that the controls of Cyber Essentials are in place. The audit, itself, includes a representative set of user devices, all internet gateways and all servers with services accessible to unauthenticated internet users. A few random samples of these systems are tested by the assessor and then a decision is made whether further testing is required.

Who requires Cyber Essentials (basic) or Cyber Essentials Plus certificate?

These certificates are essential for all organisations, businesses and suppliers, in any sector, looking to bid on certain Government contracts and Ministry of Defence contracts or keeping data of customers secure.

Organisations bidding on contracts, especially if they are involved with the public sector, will ask for Cyber Essentials as minimum, it usually means they only require the basic level of Cyber Essentials whereas businesses, small or big, that deal with sensitive data should always obtain PLUS verification.

This gives Datum the opportunity to deliver our products to higher security markets, expanding our industry portfolio and continuing to develop innovative solutions that can be used in the most secure of environments whilst keeping sensitive data safe.
