Datum Electronics are extremely proud to announce that our marine shaft power meter system has been awarded a plan approval (PA) by the China Classification Society. The certificate issued to Datum Electronics Limited on December 7th 2018 confirms that our Marine shaft power meter drawings and technical specification comply with the stringent CCS requirements for Ships and Offshore installations.

China Classification Society (CCS) is the only professional organisation in China providing classification services for the shipping, shipbuilding, offshore development and related manufacturing industries. It is one of the top 10 classification societies, along with DNV GL, Class NK, Lloyd’s Register and Bureau Veritas.

China Classification Society Plan Approval

Mark Gladdis, Marine Product Manager at Datum Electronics said, “We are truly delighted to receive a Plan Approval from CSS. We anticipate this approval will strengthen the relationship with our ever-expanding network of Shipyards in China.”

Recently, one of the largest dry bulk shipowner and operators, Oldendorff Carriers, designated Datum’s marine shaft power torque meter system as part of the Sustainable Shipping Initiative, aimed at creating a more environmentally sustainable maritime industry by 2040. The shaft power meter plays an important role in the efficient operation of their performance system, by generating reliable and highly accurate data, which can be used to optimise voyages and maintain the fleet.

Working with our marine distributors in China, HK Haichuan International Limited, the Datum Marine Shaft Power Meter has acquired a strong reputation and has been installed on a number of ships. However, the CSS plan approval will create a new milestone for the system and will certainly open new doors for Datum Marine Shaft Power Meters in 2019.

“The marine industry is constantly changing and there is great interest in improving efficiency and environmental performance, from every player in the industry. Our product addresses these requirements in a very accurate, flexible and cost-effective manner” said Paul Lynch, Contracts & Sales Manager at Datum Electronics.

“We believe the approval from CSS is the first step towards building a stronger relationship with the Chinese maritime industry. 2018 has been a very successful year for our Marine Shaft Power Meter systems and we’re looking to build upon its successes in 2019 and beyond” he added.
