Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency has approved Datum Electronics for an innovation grant for their intelligent marine engines health assessment system. The solution helps keep marine engines healthy by providing ultrafast sampling of highly accurate sensors, resulting in millions of events being analysed at sea. From this data an algorithm is formulated which allows Datum to predict potential issues with the marine engine using dynamic torque profiling to compare performance with the manufacturers baseline. The result? Innovative, predictive maintenance and pro-active condition-based monitoring solution.
Innovate UK drives productivity and economic growth by supporting businesses to develop and realise the potential of new ideas. They connect businesses to the partners, customers and investors that can help them turn ideas into commercially successful products and services and business growth.
James Lees, Managing Director of Datum Electronics commented,
“This completely encompasses our business strategy here at Datum. We are excited to continue building on our heritage of supplying innovative, high accuracy, market leading products which, when combined with the latest technology and engaging with some of the best technical minds in the industry, permit major advancements in dynamic torque measurement. As a result, we continue to offer customers huge returns across multiple marine market sectors, whilst at the same time providing vast environmental and economic benefits to ensure sustainability of the shipping industry for the future”
Datum have worked in partnership with the leading mind in first-principles digital twin systems modelling, Dr Gerasimos Theotokatos of Strathclyde University, in creating the innovative system and whose knowledge has been invaluable.
Lead Marine Project Engineer and project lead, Konstantinos Tsitsilonis stated,
